Following the Russian Revolution, Rostov (played by McGregor) endures a prolonged exile within the confines of an attic hotel room, where he remains trapped for countless decades. The ever-present threat of persecution and imminent death at the hands of the ruling Soviets deters him from venturing beyond the room’s boundaries, confining him to a life of seclusion and constant vigilance.
